Christopher & Lucie Santini
Chris & Lucie Santini are a wine-making husband and wife team who live in Auxey-Duresses, Burgundy. They specialise in producing easy drinking wines from often over-looked French terroir. Chris and Lucie's winemaking philosophy is to make clean drinking wines from organic vineyards, natural years and minimal intervention.
When not making wine in their cuveree in Auxey Duresses, Chris and Lucie can found playing lead guitar and keyboard for renowned village rock group The Auxey Morons.
The wines of The Thirsty Cyclist are brought to by a passionate team of bon viveurs who are passionate about good wine, good food and the simple pleasure of riding a bicycle.
Neil Gower illustrates each of our wine labels. A cycling fanatic, wine-enthusiast and passionate Francophile, Neil is also an internationally acclaimed graphic artist and his passion for drawing, colour and letterforms remains undiminished. Working in a wide range of media and styles.
Over the past 30 years his clients have included most major publishing houses in the UK & US, Faber & Faber, Penguin, Random House, Transworld, Knopf – and magazines such as The New Yorker, The Economist and Vanity Fair. He spent 10 years as Contributing Artist to Conde Nast Traveler in New York and is also recently engaged in private commissions for Raymond Blanc and Sir Roy Strong. Honours indeed, but nothing compared to immortalising yourself on a bottle of wine.
Our winemaker, Fred Berne, hails from one of the most beautiful vineyards in the world: Beaujolais. Fred passionately cultivates each of his ‘terroir’ to showcase their specific and unique qualities.
The youngest son of local ‘paysan’ and craftsman, Fred’s methods and day to day life, honour and pay testament to the values of authenticity and quality. A young father of two his utmost desire to transmit to his children a fertile land, pure water and and ancestral know-how that he has had the privilege of inheriting.
Tom is passionate about food, wine and cycling. After far too long on pedal-powered gastronomic journeys, in 2009 his first book was published. The Hungry Cyclist - Pedaling The Americas for The Perfect Meal.
Keen to share the pleasures of good food, great cycling and fine wine with others, in 2013 Tom purchased an abandoned watermill in Auxey-Duresses, Burgundy. Renovating the 17th buildings in 2015 The Hungry Cyclist Lodge was opened.
Needing a good regional wine to serve to Thirsty Cyclists returning from a day in the saddle, in 2015 Tom and Chris made their first barrel of Beaujolais Lantignie. When not eating, drinking or cycling Tom sings with Chris and Lucie in the notorious village rock band The Auxey Morons.
